Color-ize...The Beginnings
Color-ize originated in September of 1994 with the entrepreneur as the only employee and one knowledgeable, potential customer. Her goal was to create a digital design and short run large format (larger than 12” wide and 18” long) color printing shop, filling a point of purchase market within a 150 mile radius of Storm Lake, Iowa. By 1998 Color-ize had grown to the point where it became incorporated: Color-ize Inc. Color-ize Inc. is a Targeted Small Business in the state of Iowa as well as an Adobe Service Provider.
Getting started was a challenge for the sole employee at first as Color-ize was the first large format digital printer outside of Des Moines, Omaha, and the Twin Cities area. This came with a large, seemingly formidable task of educating the printers, future customers and clients about the possibilities available to them if they were to partner with Color-ize.
Their first rented building, they found quickly, was not going to work for them as there was no way to keep everything dry. They promptly moved out at the end of their lease to a smaller but dry environment. As business continued to grow, it became apparent Color-ize needed more room and moved into a larger facility three years later. While this allowed for some growth, it still wasn't enough space. Three years later they remodeled this building in order to gain additional space to work in. This gave them plenty of room and suited their needs for about five years. |
